Missed a few days

I missed a few days of blogging for no particular reason. I don’t have an excuse other than I forgot lol.

Kathleen failed two hearing tests because she had a cold. We went to the pediatrian and she had fluid on both ears. She’s on a round of antibiotics. Hopefully that will clear it up. We’ll take her back for a well check in a bit and check on that and all the other glorious things for a well check.

Sam has an appointment tomorrow to followup on her ear infection. Hopefully she’s cleared up. We are thinking about getting her hearing and speech tested if they are.

Shea’s got an appointment with for his sleep apnea with a doctor in two Tuesdays, we hope he can get a sooner one so he can sleep better.

And my test came back normal. yay! Second year in a row.

Resolution Review

Last year I made resolutions. I’m rather impressed with what actually got accomplished.

  • Write 2500 words a week (or 500 words for 5 days each week)
  • Create a postcard/brochure for my freelancing business
  • Find a job
  • Buy an exercise bike (and use it!)
  • Expand my WordPress knowledge
  • Try to make sour dough bread
  • Fine new and creative ways to each well on a small budget
  • Try some new vegetables
  • Learn more jQuery
  • Reduce Allergens in my house/Deep Clean the House

#1 I failed at haha, I started out okay and just feel off the wagon.
#2 I didn’t do it, I started and worked on it and updating my portfolio, but didn’t actually accomplish the goal.
#3 I did find a job. And I love my job!
#4 We did buy an exercise bike, but I barely use it. I hope to try to use it more in the future.
#5 I did expand my WordPress. One of my projects to up my portfolio was Custom Post stuff. Though the latter end of the year saw a decline in WordPress and an incline of CodeIgniter.
#6 I did try to make sour dough bread but it didn’t work out too well. Maybe I’ll try again later.
#7 I don’t think I found any creative ways to eat well on a budget. Maybe this year.
#8 I did learn more jQuery. I’m always learning more jQuery. It’s part of what I use on a regular basis at work.
#9 Sadly yes we did do this. Shea lost his job, and that actually cut out alot of the allergens he was bringing home and we got rid of Bubba. So the two biggest allregen makers were taken care of, however sad it is that both happened. We are all healthier for it. We did not however do a deep clean.

That’s last years in review. I’ll post next about this years resolutions.

Resolutions?

Do you have any? I do. But I’m still working them out. Kids are in bed. Hubby in the shower. 6am morning wake up call, ugh. And I’m still hashing out the resolutions. I’m not even sure I accomplished any from last year I’ll have to go check it out.

I have a few already set up. One is to try to blog a little every day. We’ll see how that goes. So far 1 and 1.

Sorry so long

Everythings been so busy I’ve been kinda out of it with my writing lately. For a few months actually.

I love my job. The girls are doing great. I don’t really have much to say.

Christmas was really good. We went to the in-laws on Christmas Eve, so we got to stay home on Christmas. The girls got very few toys, but I think they enjoyed everything they got 100%. Shea and I got them a new flat screen TV for their room, Grandma and Grandpa got them a digital point and shoot camera with accessory. Gram T got them an mp3 player (they got a camera and mp3 player for each of them). Mam and Pawpaw got them their very own towels, some more sheets and a school memory book, among a few other things. The aunts and uncles got them mostly clothes, a new wii game, and Cars 2 and a leapfrog tag book and amazon gift card for music.

Kathleen’s had part of her birthday, he party is on Jan 7 so most of her presents haven’t been opened. But we got her a game called Skylanders. Her and Daddy played on Friday so long that Daddy forgot to cook supper – Bad Daddy. Sammi isn’t so happy with it, but that’s okay I think she’ll get it eventually.

Wish everyone a happy New Year!

Changes in Netflix

I think I am one of the few people who isn’t overly upset about the change. Yes the change means I fork over more money than I currently have, but as far as entertainment value goes, it is still the cheapest of our diversions.

We were getting 1 DVD at a time (down from 3 DVDs at a time) and Unlimited Streaming. Both of these are things we are currently using well. But with the price jump of 6 dollars, we actually jumped up 10 dollars and change to get 2 DVDs at a time now. It made sense. Now we can possibly get 4 to 5 DVDs a week. Since mostly what we watch are series we didn’t watch over the last season that’s great for us. We are pretty good about putting out the one we watched the next day. We were doing 2 DVDs a week.

We aren’t currently paying for cable, so $23 for the “idiot box” is far cheaper than another $50 plus streaming and DVDs we were going to get anyway.

We get our money’s worth out of it. It’s by far cheaper for us than buying the movies we want to see. If we really like it it goes on our Christmas list for things we want.

If Netflix had all the things we wanted for Streaming we’d easily drop it, but there are still tons of shows we can’t see the newest episodes of. We’ll survive I’m sure lol, but for now Netflix is still far cheaper and worth it’s money than other options.

The good with the bad

I know you all don’t notice but I’ve been avoiding journaling for a little bit now. Now I can share the bad with the good.

Shea was laid of mid-April. We had no income and we had no prospects for jobs. Everything was not hiring. Shea told me he’d never seen it this bad before. But today Shea finished his interview with BAE and he got the job. So yay! Unfortunately it’s only a 90 day job, but hopefully by then things will be looking up. But for the short term we will be okay again.

I turned off our cable TV and until we catch up on the bills for the past two weeks or so I’ll probably leave it off too. We still have the internet as the only way I can help make money is to have reliable access to the net. And it was the easiest way to look for jobs etc. And it keeps the girls entertained with our Netflix streaming instead of boring us with the same DVDs all the time.

But we are going to be fine, things are okay now and I just wanted to share the past two weeks with you now that I’m not going to worry anyone anymore than we already do lol.

On the job front for myself I have applied for a Computer Lab Teacher’s Assistant job in Gautier – College Park Elementary. I don’t know if I want or if Shea will let me work there if I do as he says its a bad neighborhood. But it’s there. I have others too but nothing is never as promising as this one. No I’ve not heard anything but my background leads a lot more into this than other jobs I’ve been looking at.

Getting warmer here

It’s getting warm down here. It’s been in the 70′s for over a week, and we are running the air conditioner every night. The windows in the living room and office are open and it’s cold in the morning, but that’s only relative. The house stays chilly through out the day so I end up in a sweatshirt all day but it’s worth it.

We moved our computers to the bedroom to prepare for the incoming heat. We spent an hour or so cleaning up the bedroom to do that. It still needs a little work, and then I really need to buckle down and clean the entire house before it gets too hot.

I also need to call the AC people to come see if they can tell us what is wrong with our AC unit and how much it’ll be to fix it. We probably won’t run it much this summer but it’ll be nice to have if we have company which we are planning on having this May. My parents are coming and we are excited. The girls are making plans already lol.

It’s always good to see my parents, I only wish we could make it home more often. We will enjoy their visit muchly but it’s not the same as going home. Probably won’t be this year maybe next year will make it up in the summer or over winter break. Kathleen starting school will limit the times we can go.

March 1st starts pre-registration for Kindergarten. I have to make a phone call tomorrow to see if I must take my Kindergartner with me or not if I don’t then I will just take the little one to fill out the paper work. Registration is in July for like two days. fun.

They are growing up so fast. I’m so happy to see Kathleen doing so well, even though it’s a fight to make her stay at school. She likes it, but she doesn’t want to leave me. I haven’t been nearly as present as I could have been with her outings and the like because I want her to learn to be with her friends with out me.

Kathleen has her first birthday party this Saturday. I have to remember to pick something up for the little girl. It’s at the skating rink so it’ll be nice to take the girls. Even if it’s an extra $4 for Sammi to skate, it’ll be good.

We’ll probably take the girls skating again for Sam’s birthday just the two of them with the passes Kathleen got for her birthday. Hopefully they will have a good time.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is nearly upon us and there is many things I am thankful for. Most of all I’m thankful I have two healthy little girls who light up my life as well as frustrate me beyond belief. I wouldn’t have it any other way and of course my most loving husband whom I couldn’t do any of this with out. He really does make my life so much better.

I am thankful for all of my family, immediate, extended or honorary. My only wish is that I could see everyone more often. My immediate family lives in three different locations, I have family in NY and in CO I wish I could see more often. I have friends who I consider family all over the world and wish it was easier to see them. But that is life we deal with it.

I am thankful we have a house and the money to pay for it, even if it’s not enough to splurge on things we do get by and we are all happy, and that’s what matters.

Thank you all for being part of my life and I wish the best for everyone.

The Good, The Bad and the Sneezy

Well not really the bad, there’s nothing really bad to say but it felt like a good title lol. We turned our cable tv back on today. And can I say I missed the Food Network. (and the Weather channel). And finally now I can get the girlies to watch whats on tv instead of watching the same show for a week straight or whatever catches their fancy on Netflix that day.

Our Roku had definately paid for itself and then some. We have a bit of TV to catch up on before we are completely ready to watch live TV again, but for tonight we are golden. (Well mostly Haven’s last episode isn’t up ). But Smallville and Supernatural are good so we are set for tv tonight and Chuck on Monday and No Ordinary Family on Tuesday, Wednesday will have to catch up on two Bones so we can watch it on Thursday.

Everything else we watch we are doing so on DVD because we are more than a season behind – Fringe, House and the Big Bang Theory. Eureka is complete until winter.

The Bad and the Sneezy I guess are one in the same. I think Kitten has allergies. Though we’ll have to wait till we can get insurance to cover some of it. She’s a headache today and the sniffles. I gave her some Zyrtec and hope that it helps both, just have to wait a few hours to see if it’s still a complaint.

I cleaned her room yesterday and it stirred up dust to the point that I had to take my Zytrec early cause I was just not doing well. So I’m pretty sure it’s allergies for her, but we’ll keep an eye on it. I kinda wish she was still on antibiotics so I was sure it wouldn’t be a major cold, but eh, I am glad she’s done with that.
