Camp NaNoWriMo

The people who do NaNoWriMo in November are doing one in July AND August. I’m gonna shoot for July and maybe August to write one of the stories stuck in my head. You can see my progress to the right here on my journal. First day I’m above the minimum balance needed to hit the deadline, tomorrow I’ll probably be able to do more since Shea will be doing some sanding.

Sanding you ask? Yes, while we have time we are going to redo the girls bedroom with some help from the in-laws. We are redoing the walls – putting in sheet rock, painting and generally just redecorating the room. I think we’ll be doing a butterfly/flower theme. Mam bought the girls some butterfly clip boards to hang their art work on. The walls will be pink. we haven’t decided what shade yet but pink is what is. We need to try to get some of Sam’s choice in there which right now is blue. It could change tomorrow lol.

The Amazing Month of Writing

I saw that one of my friends had joined The Amazing Month of Writing so I decided to check it out. For the month of March the goal is to write 1000 words a day. Much like NaNoWriMo it’s all about the writing. But this is not so much as writing a novel but just writing consistently and with a goal.

So I go with it this month and hope I can pull 1000 words a day out between blogging, rps and writing I have some work I want to do on my first chapter of Reveal, and to rewrite the second chapter based on a new idea. But that new idea requires an outline rewrite – at least in the first part of the story.

Maybe with this goal of 1000 words a day I might actually start blogging regularly. Tho I really don’t have much to say that isn’t about my kids lol. So not sure how interesting it is. And unlike a friend of mine I really don’t have much opinion about the things going around me so that’s not an option. I know there are a lot of things around me I should care about -health care and so many other things but not really interested.

Today’s count is at about 500 at this very moment, and continuing to grow as I finish this post lol. 1000 words across the things I want to do should work for me. Hopefully I can do this entire month – weekends will be hard but I will try.

Ears, Meds and NaNo (and birthday)

First up, I’ve actually been doing really well this November with my NaNoWriMo project. I’m currently at 27,525 words and it’s only day 10, not even half way through. I’d like to see if I can get 3K in today but we’ll see. I’m having to wing it. I mean I know the ending but how I get there and the character plots need to be finished so we’ll see how long it takes and if the word count makes it. I’ve not decided yet if I’ll let anyone read it, we’ll see. May have a few red pen it lol we’ll see. It’s a big floppy in perspective if you ask me, but NaNo isn’t about editting or critiquing just writing, and that’s what I’m doing. I’ll probably poke at it after NaNo. I do like the story and the characters and I see ongoing stories, and there is tons to write before the story takes place too.

On to the kid updates. Kathleen had an ENT appointment yesterday, she still has fluid on her ears, but there is no infection so the ENT said to come back in 4 weeks. If the fluid is still there then we’ll go from there. If she spikes a fever or complains she said to come in. I really liked her, she reminded me of a friend of mine.

I’m also not sure how much of her meds she’s actually taken. I have 30 minutes in the morning to get the girls up and ready including getting Kathleen to take her meds. Which typically takes that long. So I’m multitasking. About a week ago i caught her puttign the liquid meds UNDER my bed, just squished it out. Today she squished it out behind my bed. I turned my back for two seconds to put clothes in the hamper and she did it – AND then she lied to me. She can’t play the computer or the Wii today. Tomorrow morning should be her last meds, but I’m going to make her finish the bottle off, it’s only a day or two more at most, but since I don’t know if she took it all I’m going to finish it off. If she does it again she’s going to be regulated to sitting in her room with just coloring books, toys and books to read. No TV might make her understand the importance of taking her meds even if the fear of the hospital doesn’t scare here much, tho it still does lol just not enough to take her meds all the time.

Shea and I are thinking of doing a skating party for Kathleen’s 5th birthday party. She really wanted a pinata, but I think she’d have more fun this way and also have more friends over this way as well. I hate to impose upon my inlaws for that many kids lol. What use to be called the Rainbow Skate Center on Highway 63 looks to be the best price for the number of skaters. Now just to find a good weekend and put a list of people together. I also have to check on birthday invitations and cake requirements at her school. As it wasn’t in the handbook. We’ll have to see how things work out in the end.

NaNoWriMo

This year I’ve beat any other try at this that I can think of. I’m 2 days in with 10,000 and a few words.

The general idea of the story has been rattling around in my head for a few years, and I finally got the hook I needed to actually do it easily and with out feeling like I was messing things up. Killing off Matalina/Cari a while back was that hook that made the story go on.

I’m doing well this year. I hope my momentum stays this way. I’m hoping for about 3K a day, mostly to be written while Kitten is at school. I might get a few more words in tonight and this afternoon, but we’ll see the girls are being a bit clingy this afternoon, which doesn’t surprise me with Kathleen’s meds making her tummy all funny. But thankfully we haven’t complained about the ears so that’s a plus.

We see an ENT on the 9th.

Web of Destiny – first post

Rae got her bio posted so we can start writing together. yay! Now the writing has started – By the Ferry. It’s not much so far but even if it’s just me and Rae maybe my writing bug will be satisfied. Though I’m hoping once we get started, more people will join us. We have a few lurkers and one other contributor, but Neon Elf is in the middle of moving to a new state where he’s a new job so he’s not been around working on building the world up. Hopefully he’ll be around after he gets settled, and maybe we can pull him into some RPing with us. We’ll see how things go once they get better.

If you are interested in reading or even doing some world building exercises, we’d love to have you. Come check us out at wot.just-us.net, we’d love to see you there.

Not a niche and ramblings

I don’t know how people come here, or who subscribes to my feeds, all I know is my blog stats show a bit of activity so I just want to clarify a few things. I am not a niche blog. I talk about everything I’m interested in.

My sub heading is “My Family, My Life, My Journal” for that reason. I will talk design and programming, I will talk about my family, I will bore you to death with my girls and their growing up. I will write about my writing adventures about role playing and cooking. These are all things I like, all things I do. I am not a niche blog, unless I’m a niche lol.

I have a lot to say today lol, and it’s only almost 5am. *sighs*

I’m excited about getting a puppy. I really hope we can find one we all agree on. I’d really like to have a puppy sooner rather than later. Provided the weather holds out today we will try to go to the closest one, but we are under a winter weather advisory. What does that mean? WELL that means if it even starts to snow, doesn’t even have to stick to the ground, things will start to close. First and foremost being the high rise bridges over the various rivers around here. So guess what that means for us – we either stay home, or we go the very long way to get to things lol. The last time it snowed here it was my very first Christmas here. We were at Shea’s parents house and the bridge we needed to take was closed. We were like 5 to 10 miles from home and had to go 30 miles out of our way to get there. It probably would have been closer to go back to Shea’s parents house, but we didn’t, we went the long way home on Christmas night lol.

I would like it to snow, but I’m not counting on it. If it does it’ll be late, and dark and the girls won’t really be able to go out and play in it. But hopefully they’ll be awake to see it snow. It’s a late TV night for us so it’s possible they might see snow.

Today we go sign paper work for the girls ER trip for their overdose of children’s tylenol. I’ve been meaning to get that paperwork set up so the payments come out of Shea’s pay check, but it’s just one of those things that went by the way side. But tomorrow after Shea gets home from his over time we’ll go sign the paperwork and then hopefully go look at puppies. I really don’t care what we get, I just don’t want a yipper. I can’t stand little dogs or over hyper ones.

A post a day? – PSD to XHTML/CSS

It seems I’m going for a goal of a post a day on my blog, I doubt it will actually work, but we’ll see. It really does depend on the weekends. During the week it’s an easy feat just have to think up something to write about, we’ll see if I can manage that this month. Maybe writing my fustrations down will help lol.

But anyway, I’m looking for PSDs to convert to HTML/CSS templates, more importantly to convert into functional wordpress designs. I have downloaded about 20 different PSDs to use as my learning base. This is actually what I love doing, so for a limited time ONLY I’m looking for other people’s creations to create into wordpress designs they can use.

While I can theme wordpress with the best of them, I’m looking at this more from a development point of view. I have two goals in mind here. 1) to take the psd of someoneelse’s creation and make it look like it’s suppose in XHTML and CSS and 2) to create a customizable theme with al ot of features that do not require a plugin.

So for a limited time, like two weeks from today I’ll take a stab at anyone who can send me a PSD to convert into a wordpress theme. This work is free, but because it is free I can’t make any guarantees, this is a learning process and I may or may not finish it, or it may not come out quickly or exactly as you had intended.

Escaping Reality and Dragonmount

About two weeks or so ago I left Dragonmount for personal reasons. For those of you who are worried about DM8 don’t be. I’m still working on it, just not in view of anyone other than Jason, Kevin and Jenn. Don’t contact me about it cause I’m not likely to answer :P.

Anyway, by leaving I lost my place to write in the interactive fashion that I really enjoy so I’ve been searching for a game that fits my needs. I think I’ve found one in Escapting Reality. It’s a small site based around the World of Darkness (vampires and werewolves in the modern world). I had to create a character concept and then go through an audition. I made it through then I really wasn’t worried, just concerned I’d not fit into their view of what an RP post should look like but I didn’t have any problems.

Claire Valentine’s Concept

Below the cut is the audition plus the final comment I got from the person giving the audition.

The end of an era

Way back when I first joined Dragonmount I created a character belovedly named Matalina. Today marks the end of an era, she is dead. Matalina has been through so many transitions and so many different things I figured now was a good time to end it, she would never have made it to Tarmon Gaidon anyway, I never intended her to.

I have archived the end of my favorite character in a massive novel size document: Murder in the Yards. The story takes Matalina, now Cari Namere back to Tar Valon and saves her family with the ultimate sacrifice. I did not write this alone, there was many many many participants and I’d like to thank all of them for participating in this rp, it was awesome even though it was VERY long.
